Onkyo Releases ‘Onkyo Remote 2’ App for iPod touch/iPhone

Press Release dated: 4 Nov 2011

4 November 2011: Home entertainment specialist Onkyo has released a visually redesigned and functionally uprated version of its remote control application for the iPod Touch/iPhone, called the Onkyo Remote 2.

With the release of the Onkyo Remote 2, iPod touch/iPhone users are now also able to control the output in individual zones in a multi-room distributed audio set-up, a huge advance in versatility.

Available as a free download, the Remote 2 App offers a number of benefits to Onkyo home cinema and hi-fi system owners, not least the ability to easily access commonly used controls. These include play, stop, skip, and pause; volume, bass, and treble adjustment; listening mode and input source selection; network source selection; and radio station.

Perhaps best of all, users can also control and enjoy their treasured digital music libraries as well as the majority of streamed music and internet radio services, directly from the iPod Touch/iPhone (‘in-app’ access to Spotify on iPod Touch/iPhone will be delivered in the near future).

The Onkyo Remote 2 application is compatible with all network-ready Onkyo AVRs released in 2010 and 2011 (TX-NR*08 onwards), as well as the T-4070 Network Tuner and TX-8050 Network Stereo Receiver (earlier models may also require a firmware update).

It's worth noting that owners of the T-4070 and TX-8050 can also use their iPod Touch or iPhone as an all-in-one remote controller for multiple components (such as CD players and amplifiers) that are linked via Onkyo's established Remote Interactive (RI) hard-wired control system.

As part of its mission to remain at the forefront of home entertainment Onkyo intends to pursue a policy of continuous development for its Apps for iPod Touch/iPhones as well as Android devices… there’s much more to come!

NB: because of legacy technology restrictions the new Onkyo Remote 2 application does not support TX-NR*07 series AV receivers. The original Onkyo Remote for iPhone (which does support those models) will continue to be offered as a free download
